Auto Repair in Seelyville, IN
As part of Lost Creek Township, the community of Seelyville is located nine miles east of Terre Haute, part of its metropolitan area. Home to approximately 1,000 residents, Seelyville is known for its quiet, small-town atmosphere. A large number of people in Seelyville commute on a regular basis for employment, shopping and dining.
Seelyville came to exist because of the McKeen coal shaft, one of the first mines in Vigo County. The town was named for Jonas Seely, a huge contributor to the development of the community. The town of Seelyville established a post office in 1878 and served as a station on the Vandalia Railroad. By the early 1900s, even though several operators attempted to keep the McKeen mine active, it was closed. Seelyville lost a valuable contributor to the community, but it still managed to grow.
